This website has not been updated for a few days... and thats for a very good reason.
First, I have officially formed Kodiak Skateboards LLC. and have been spending my little free time on administrative tasks a bit of design and production management.
More importantly though. It is finals time. Damn! I have been studying my butt off for the past couple of days to ensure a good grade on the finals. Interestingly though, to tie this into my recent post about sleep, I have been using three new methods to try to improve my performance.
First, I have been feeding myself well, so that I do not run out of steam today. My finals start at 7:15 and go straight untill 12:30.
Second, we all know that I am totally NOT a morning person. Thus, having a final in the morning, is not my peak time for intelectual performance. As such, I took a good long nap today, and woke up at 12am, and am studying and going to go to my finals, then come home and sleep agian. This will allow me to, I hope, perform better as I am more alert and I do not have 6-8 hours of dreaming about fast cars, action movies, and pretty corsets to obliterate significant portions of the material I have aquired durring my studying.
Finally I am continuing to attempt to relate superficial aspects of the material I am studying to things that intrest me and I daydream about, in an effort to make the information easier to recall. It seems to be working extremely well.
For example, the sociologis Todd Gitlin studied television programs and their symbolic meanings to society. These television programs were entertainment related, and not news. The relation is, Gitlin, sounds like Biltin, which is a form of longboard bearing... and if you watch longobarding on the X-Games it is television entertainment not news. Another exmaple is C. Wright Mills is interested in the way in which people are affected by power structures yet are unaware or lack understanding of the power that is controlling them. The relation is. it takes a good amount of power to mill metal, and the metal is completely unaware of the aparatus of power that is shaping it.
Sure they dont seem to make all that much sense to you, but they make complete sense to me, which is of course the point. Yeah they are strange, but they are memorably strange, and as such are perfect for helping me remember things. Hey, it might just be strange enough to work!
Finally, this is the calm before the storm. In early June I am leaving for Thailand and expect... contingent on my access to the internet, a flood of interesting posts and pictures. A monsoon perhaps.
