The cycle of life is really intersting. One thing that has always made me ponder, is the way in which the cycle of day and night effects our life. We divide all of our actions up into days, nights, and following days. We say that we will do things today, tomorrow, on wednesday, or whatever. We go to sleep with the intention of having enough time to have enough REM cycles so that we can wake up the next morning "rested" and go through the following day.
Yet, I have always found that I naturally would spend about 21 or so hours awake, and then start to tire. I also know that when studies are done with people living in caves for long periods of time outside of any natural light, they begin to stay up much longer as well. Does this mean that I, or people as a whole are a fluke of evolution? Why should we, when we have taken such deliberate contorl over every other aspect of our natural lives, feel a need to cycle on a rythem that does not fit our own personal sleep cycle? I hate waking up every morning. Few things are more psychologically traumatic for me as waking up when I am still tired, I am really not kidding about this. Also, I have trouble forcing myself to sleep at night.
In my perfect world, which of course exists only in my dreams, I would go to sleep when tired and wake up when I... wait for it... wake up naturally. Wouldn't you want to also? Young people sleep more, older people sleep less, thats just how things are.
So lets Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison proud, rock artifical lighting, and create a 24 hour society.
I could elaborate on my vision, but frankly, I am tired. Really, I am its 4 am and I have been up since 5 am....
...and nobody cares anyway.
But it made me feel better to write this.
