Cinco de Mayo is a really big holiday in San Jose. We have a sizeable latino population here, but more htan that it seems that it has grown into another Saint Patricks day, an excuse for people to drink and party. For whatever reason though, a bunch of people from the area flocks into San Jose, they go to clubs, drink, and most oddly, drive around with huge fricken Mexican flags hanging out the window. Thats fine. Party, have a good time, celibrate Mexican independance, thats what makes our nation great. So long as your not driving around drunk, more power to you.
But some people aparently found this just too anoying to handle. Now, durring Cinco de Mayo, and the 4th of may, the freeway exits into downtown San Jose are blocked off by caltrans, to reduce traffic into the area.
WTF!
Who the hell thought that was a good idea? Instead of having people driving around our neighborhoods in circles waving flags out the windows, we are driving around other peoples neighborhoods in circles trying to find our damned way home. I would personally rather be in my home, comfortable, watching tv, working on homework, whatever, and see them throughm my window than be subjected to driving four miles extra to find my way home. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
If anyone involved in this program here in San Jose reads this... then please, quit now. It will be best for everyone.
