The Thai as a people really like a lot of tings, mopeds, cheap beer, haggling, and most importantly... their king. The king of Thailand is not not like the royalty of england... where they are basically just a bunch of moochers that have done nothing. In Thailand, although the monarchy is hereditary, the king really is a pretty awesome guy. He pretty much stays out of most governmental affairs even though he in a sense has veto power over most everything, but is willing to step in to avert violence and spends much of his time working on development programs to help the poor. He is sort of like a royal Bonno. As such, everyone in Thailand respects him, mix that with a dose of it being illegal to criticize him, and everybody seems to love him. To honor him, they have his face everywhere, and his royal color, yellow, is worn by I would say.. about a fourth of the population ever Monday.
If you like yellow polo shirts... come here on a Monday.
However, if you like driving, do not come here. Thailand is a mostly Buddhist country, and as such they believe in reincarnation. Never ever drive in a country that believes in reincarnation.
People swerve in an out of traffic on their mopeds like its paris... but they do it in flip flops and helmets that look like they were designed for kayacking. That is of course... if they wear helmets. oh and dont forget the families of mopeders, 5 at a time. I am not talking about 5 mopeds, no, 5 people on one moped. Busses here make u-turns... and people dont let them in. Its just... I dont know... very apathetic to the concept of physical injury.
The food though, gah! So good. I would explain it to you , but you really would hate me for it. Even hospital food tastes amazing. Makes me want to go make some moped uturns.... see if iI can get myself osme hospital curry.
