Alright, I am offering up one meal on me to the person who wins this contest.
As some of you may know, I am going to be studying in Japan for at least one semester. As such, I will be living in Japan... which is of course totally fricken awesome, and will be doing my best to speak Japanese as much as possible to learn thorugh imersion. This brings up a problem though.
My name. In Japan, the sounds of the letters L, R, and D are all kind of the same. Its like "ldha." Kinda combine the three in your mouth with your tounge and your teeth and roof of your mouth and such, and thats it.
Here in lays the problem. Ever seen lost in translation, with lip my stockings? Yeah... thats what happens to Ls and Rs... they always get lost... in translation. Dont forget though my name is Colleen Kelly Henry. Essentially my name is a feild of landmines for native Japanese speakers to butcher. I always end up being coreen, kerry, enlee. Which is all fine and well, as I myself will suck infinitecimally more at pronouncing their language than they suck at pronouncing my name, but I figure hey... lets make it easier on them.
In Thailand people who often work with Americans and get sick of Americans being completely unable to pronounce their name... so much so that htey give up on even attempting it... come up with names that Americans can pronounce. In all of my spanish classes in high school and middle school, we always had to use spanish names so that we did not fall out of speaking spanish.
I figure, maybe I should choose a name that is easy to pronounce with a Japanese accent to make everything easier. As such, I have been poking around Japanese girls name websites taking a look to see if there are any that are similar to what my name means.
From my research my name means
Colleen - girl
Kelly - warrior
Henry - ruler of the household
Havent found any girl warrior Japanese names so far... but I am looking. Still looking though. As such, the first person to come up with a good Japanese name for me to use, gets a free sushi dinner on me.
I am also on the lookout for a new screen name, as ej25goddess is so played out...
I am thinking right now "luftwaffles"
I am offering up a free beer and eternal glory to anyone to can come up with something better. Remember, what we do in life, echoes in eternity.
Let the games begin.
Its peanut butter naming time.

I am so gonna find you a Japanese name. You have a particularly hard case though, because Japanese girl names are usually very "girly," with meanings like "beautiful child" or "perfume" or "butterfly." There is probably a male name meaning "warrior" but certainly not a girl's one. And the Japanese word for "girl" is "onna" but you can't just go around saying, "hello, my name is Girl." But this just means we'll have to be creative! :)
